Hamburg my pearl!

Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany. The city is crisscrossed by hundreds of canals, some of which are called Fleete, and also has extensive parks and green spaces. Because of the number of canals, Hamburg is also known as the Venice of the North. No other city in Europe has as many bridges as Hamburg: 2485.
Boats sail on the Binnenalster near the city center, and numerous cafés are located around the reservoir.

The Jungfernstieg connects the New Town with the Old Town, where landmarks such as the main church of St. Michaelis from the 18th century are located.

The 2023 ISIR Conference will be held in the historic hall of the UKE’s old nurses’ home, the Erika House.

This building was erected in 1912-14 according to the plans of the Director of Construction of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Prof. Fritz Schumacher, and is now a listed building.

In 2019, Universität Hamburg was named a University of Excellence in the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments grant competition—one of only eleven German universities and/or university alliances to receive the honor.
